1. The Newsroom With the budget and creative freedom that HBO provided Aaron Sorkin, we were hoping for something better than Studio 60. But instead we got this preachy nonsensical mess… most of which was rehashed from his previous, superior shows. We knew we were in trouble when we saw that it was set a few years back and that they’d be reporting on old news in the most heavy-handed way possible, but never did we imagine how stupidly the women would be portrayed or how insufferable every single character would be. It’s been a chore to get through each episode without throwing something at our televisions. If it wasn’t for True Blood, we would have cancelled our HBO subscriptions until the return of Game of Thrones.

I couldn’t possibly disagree more. I actually find myself consistently bored out of my mind watching True Blood. After trying to catch up for days, I finally gave up when I realized that I actually stopped caring after season 3, or was that 4? It doesn’t really matter. While I don’t pretend to argue that The Newsroom is the best show on television since maybe The Wire, I still find it infinitely more interesting than True Blood. Maybe I’m just over the whole Vampire/Werewolf/Supernatural being kick that’s been dominating popular culture for the past few years and I’m looking for something a little more grounded in reality. As for the women of The Newsroom, I love them all. They’re flawed. They’ve had triumphs. They’ve made mistakes. But they’re professionals. They have careers and degrees and titles. They’re the best at something and not-so-great at other things. They’re real to me and I can connect with them in a much deeper way than I can connect with Sookie Stackhouse.
As for Game of Thrones, do we REALLY have to wait until April for the next season?!
